BASIC DUB from VCR to DVX100

Hello Chaps... Trying hard to get some analogue media onto DV via the DVX100:

OBJECTIVE 1:

Is it possible to connect a basic VHS VCR via RCA/S-Video directly into the DVX and make a DV copy of the VHS?

I have all 3 RCA's plugged in, all I get is straight clean audio, but no picture of any kind.

OBJECTIVE 2:

Do the same with an audio cassette. Connecting a Nakamichi tape player via the 3 RCA's. (Only problem is no sound comes thru unless the video RCA is in and there is obviously no video channel on an old tape deck).

Any ideas wizards of the forum, for this solution or another workaround.
BTW This is all personal footage, no copy protection, I own all rights.

SPECS:
I'm using a basic Samsung (NTSC) VCR with NTSC Tapes into a PAL DVX100.

Objective 1. No problem. Make sure to set your camera to VCR mode and record to tapes, unless you've got something DV Rack (PC) or DV Monitor Pro (Mac) that will allow you to record directly to a hard drive.

Never tried Objective 2, so I have no answer for that.

Also, I'm not sure what issues you might have going from NTSC to PAL...

I would think the PAL/NTSC mismatch is what's lousing up your video for Objective 1. As for Objective 2, you proibably just need to feed the camera some sort of "dummy" video signal, from a test pattern generator or something like that.
