Basic A7SII Questions

I'm trying out a A7SII and have a couple questions

I have the File Format set to XAVCS 4K and the Record Setting to 24p 100M. I also have the HFR Setting at 24p 12m

1. How do you put the camera into HFR mode? I have the camera in video mode and I hit the record button, though how do you tell it to shoot either the 24p footage or the HFR footage?
2. Is it showing only 30p and 24p under HFR because I am shooting in 4K and it doesn't support HFR at 4K?

Thank you.

4K HFR (4K/120p) exists in only a couple of cameras in the world...and they cost much more, ha.

The next best option is 4K/60p. Even though it's not really HFR, it will provide you 40% slow-motion in a 24p timeline.

There is one DSLR that shoots 4K/60p (1DX Mark II) and one mirrorless (GH5). A third camera will be added to the list - G9 - upon its release in 2018. The rest are all cinema cameras and a few fixed-lens prosumer models.

You can shoot regular 4K/30p in the a7SII and slow that down 20% (80% slow-motion) in a 24p timeline, but it's barely anything.

EDIT - P.S. Not sure why I provided a breakdown on other cameras, haha, but yea...no 4K HFR in a7sII, only HD.

1. How well would using a 3rd party program like Twixtor be to slow down 4K 24fps footage? I've never used the program so I know nothing about it.

2. Why is it that the RX100IV can shoot 4K at up to 960fps (I am pretty sure) though the A7SII doesn't have a 4K HFR option?
Are there big technical limitations of doing this with a larger sensor vs. the compact one?

Thanks.

One other thing that is driving me CRAZY when testing out this camera. I am in video mode manual and I set my shutter, ISO and aperture and shoot some footage, I then switch to Manual mode to shoot some photos and make some changes to the settings and when I quickly switch back to video mode to take a shot the settings have been changed based on the Manual photo settings. Is there a way to keep the settings made to video mode separate from still photo mode?

Thanks.

haha, the RX100IV can only shoot 960fps at 1080p.

If you'd like that framerate @4K, here's one option - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/882225-REG/for_a_ft_one_full_4k_variable.html

There are less than 12 cameras (with interchangeable lenses) or so in the world that can do 4K/60p (not counting multiple mount models as options).

No Sony mirrorless camera can shoot 4K/60p, let alone 4K/120p - 240p - 480p - 960p. It's all HD and very questionable quality once you get past 120p. And even that is kind of rough.

Twixtor can work well but only in the best scenarios. Scenes with high-contrast, lots of movement will not look natural. Rendering times are also crazy. High framerates and high shutter speeds work the best. So slowing down 24p at 1/48 will not look as good as slowing down 60p at 1/2000.

I don't think you can store those settings in the memory, but I'm not 100% sure.
