Basic 23.976 P Timeline Setup

I would like to use my DVX100A to shoot something in 24P Advanced and then edit it on a 24P (or at least a 23.976 P) timeline. I'm not entirely clear on the steps however.

This is what I have so far:

1) film using DVX100A at the 24P Advanced frame rate.
2) create a new Avid Express project, selecting 23.976 NTSC from the Format drop-down menu (rather than the usual 30i).

The user guide I have says I can then capture the 23.976 footage in Avid from any deck/mini-DV camera as long as it was filmed at 24P Advanced. Does that mean I simply plug the camera into my computer and capture, just as per usual? I don't have to tell Avid that it's going to be 24P Advanced? That is, Avid recognizes the footage for what it is and does the pulldown appropriately on its own?

Advice is appreciated! I'll soon know enough to give advice back to the DVX community myself!

Cheers,

Sean

What version of Xpress Pro?

If it's 4.6 or lower, then the 23.976 project automatically removes pulldown for 24p Advanced.

If it's 5.1 or higher, then you have the option of removing Normal or Advanced Pulldown in a 23.976 project and you can instruct Avid on which to use in the Film and 24p settings window.

Once you've defined that, just capture your footage using the DVX (or deck) and you'll have your 24 frames.

Hope that helps.
