EVA1: Base ISO 400/1250 vs 800/2500

So this is a bit of a minor gripe but I know base ISO switches to 400/1250 in certain modes. But the camera interface does not seem to change to clarify when this is the case. The home screen still shows base 2500. So it makes it quite hard to remember.

What modes (internal, and RAW) does the BASE ISO switch? And why? (Understanding the why helps me remember. Is there a reason, IE, when using a mix mode and having pixel blending? When using a crop mode and having less pixels to work with? Why?)

I am going to guess here: Is it only in RAW 2.2k CROP/MIX mode and in Internal 2.8k CROP/MIX mode when the Base ISO becomes 400/1250?

Thanks Mitch. What is the science/reason behind this on a sensor level?

It must not be the crop, then, because that doesn't affect the ISO. It sounds like it is just the MIX function causing this?

What about MIX forces a reduce in BASE ISO and sensitivity?

It's really about the high frame rates in interaction with the crop, but it was decided that it would be very confusing to users to change the sensitivity from one frame rate to another in the same mode. So all of this mode is optimized to the lower sensitivity. This makes it easier for people who wish to shoot entirely in that mode so that they can quickly switch frame rates.

Got it. Yeah, it's a bummer, because the higher sensitivity is most invaluable at the higher FPS and would really do wonders for 240p. But I know we're already pushing the envelope here.

This solution makes sense.

This next question is by no means urgent, but being the curious cat (aka nerd) I am, what makes the circuitry unable to to process the higher sensitivity in conjunction with the higher FPS? My engineering inclined brain loves that stuff.

Thanks!!
