bars through footage

hey, i recently bought a dvx and a couple times ive had lines/bars through my footage. ive gotten black horizontal bars in my footage for a bit, and i have also gotten bars through my footage of something i previously filmed. It has done this when filming over a tape and with a new tape. Sometimes the red X appears when the bars apear sometimes i know when the bars happen sometimes i dont.

my camera is pretty new and it has 65hours on it, i think i have only filmed with like 15 tapes so far, once in a while rarely ill tape over something. ive been using sony premiums since i got it and havent captured with it.

I heard dvx has self cleaning heads so i was wondering if when it cleans its self is it cleaning it with a diff kinda lube and its mixing with sony lube? I dont want to film something and have it get messed up so i need to stop this from happening.
So what should i do to stop this from happening? I know panasonic are like dry tapes and sony tapes are wet. So what yout think I should do. I have feeling it might be cause using sony premium tapes. Should i run a head cleaner and switch to panasonic tapes?

Definitely have your dvx cleaned out. There is a thread here where a member gives you step by step instructions on how to do it yourself.
I would try to steer clear from those head cleaner tapes.

I wouldn't know for sure if switching to different tapes might help. But I've been using panasonic pro tapes (can't remember the exact type, I just know they were pro models) ever since I got my dvx. I've been filming large projects every year since 2002 (about 50+hours a year, doing documentaries), and only had to clean my head twice.

I'm trying to make it a habit to actually clean the head after 50 hours of recording, instead of waiting for the red x to appear. It's probably better for the camera, and saves you a lot of hassle on shoots.
