bars and tone

What can a DV amateur, like myself, use for tone at the beginning of a project? I'm using Vegas to generate my bars.

Does anyone have a .WAV suitable for tone?

If you are willing to pre-stripe your tapes, use Final Cut Pro for bars and tone. This also allows you to set your time code on the tape ahead of time then use regenerate in the camera.

Not that I ever use it but I generated my bars and tone in Premiere 6.o and saved it as avi to use anytime I want.

It is best to use the bars generated from the camera. That is what they are there for. You can properly calibrate your monitor and also set levels properly for importing footage. They also are needed to setup levels(broadcast) if your project is dumped to tape.

What is the difference between camera generated bars and NLE bars? Just wondering because I'm always using NLE and only want the best in my work

Use Vegas to generate the tone as well. When you go to print to tape it gives you an option to include bars and/or tone.
