Sorry about the thread title. Something strange happened. It was supposed to say HVX200 book.

This may be a dumb-ass question, but when is Barry's the HVX book comming out? Is there a specific launch date yet?

Barry, if your reading this, you should do what they did for the Varicam guidebook, include an SD card with multiple scene file settings for different looks. When i saw this i was very impressed and to me it warranted the purchase alone.

Yes, and have Pany include a complimentary copy to all the early adopters of this sexy little camera.

Not at the printers, at the proofreaders. It's still a little ways off.

I like the SD card idea. I was going to do a DVD and put the scene files on there, but the SD card is probably the better idea!

Well you could do both I know it is more work. But have the basic version of the book for
$60.00 or what ever and it comes with the DVD with the scene files and all the other stuff. And then have the Special Addition that is $150.00 that comes with the DVD and SD Card...

I know I would Buy.

Jan actually mentioned the possibility of Barry's book being included with new cameras after the book's release. Don't know what her view of providing the book to current owners is.

Me too. (and just for the book (and just for the DVD))

It'd be nice if Pany would reward us early adopters with a deep discount, though.

Hi,

What we did for the Varicam Book and the SDX book was to include a CD that had every photograph in the book on it so you could see the subtle changes that some of the settings made, plus the scene files. These scene files could then be off-loaded onto a no longer in use SD card you have laying around becuse you Digital still camera got hungry for a bigger one.

I loved being able to look carefully at the pictures and picking up the changes. It was really an excellent tool. Also when we did that we were careful to only impact the Paint part of the camera, so do body was accidently set to something they didn't know they wanted. ;-)

On the CD, what I think swayed me into thinking that the CD was a better idea was that in the rental business, they were going through the CDs faster than they could be replaced. Customers would "lose" them. And since it wasn't the whole book, the rental guy sort said , okay. The problem is with anything small you need to think about the replacemnt cost and how easy that is to do.

Not saying that the SD card is a bad idea Barry, it is kind of sexy. But I unfortunatley only hear the bad news, I have lost the ____ and how do I replace it. I mean people lose their lens covers, poser supplies, if it isn't attached it is gone. Sometimes I wonder how they get out the door everyday but it is all about the human animal.

Best,

Jan

I see. i just remember my friend telling me he got an SD card with his guide for the Varicam. I guess he failed to tell me it was his SD card and he offloaded it from CD.

Loved the looks tho, especially that filmstock emulation look, i still couldnt believe my eyes on how close it looked to 16mm, absolutly beautiful in all regards.

Jan, i know the Varicam uses that 6 point color correction process or whatever, but with the HVX are we only limited to the scene file settings (master ped, chroma level, etc) or is there another way to get into the colorometry and include white balance tempuratures and more subtle changes.?

Actually the VariCam is 12 Point color correction. The sublties will need to be accomplished with the settings that are in the camera and potentially filtration on the outside.

I mean the VariCam does cost $65,000, there is a lot more in there than what you can put into a $6000 camera. That said I know that Barry has been working on some looks as well and you can get some diverse looks lout of the camera, much like you can with the DVX.

Jan

2 Questions:

Jan, any chance us early adopters will get a book if you start shipping them with cameras once the book is done?

Can we get some information on what the new Focus port expects to see ( electrical signal ) for control of iris and focus so we DIY'ers can make our own?

A side note... it would really be nice to have a remote toggle for the Focus Assist as well as the 1 time auto focus button for remote control.

I live in L.A. and I have been looking for the poser supply store...It must be on Melrose.
