Barry's Added film look

Hi all,
I has watching Barry's DVX DVD and the 16mm / DVX test. At the end "just add a little in post" added a grain to match more of a 10mm look. So ... What was that?

Grain Surgery, some Noise, VHS dubb ??

Hmmmm....

What else is there to do at 3:17 in the morning.

It's 12:30 here, and time for grain. I have added this as another layer. You can bias the grain toward the highlights or towards the shadows with certain plugins (Magic Bullet * cough, cough*).

Or, shoot in daylight with the gain at 12 decibels or higher.

Don't know about 10mm, but there was a 9.5mm film format, so maybe that's close enough?

OK, So I was making my own stock size again, the 8x10 sheet film taped end to end didn't go over well eighter, but no grain !!

But really, what grain plugs have you guys used with good results ? MAC is important too!

I haven't played around with the others as much. I know there's Cinelook 2.

Just remember that MPEG2 hates video noise, so if you plan on doing your own encoding, do some tests with your MPEG2 encoder to see what the results will be.
