Barry please what DTE you suggest me

My fs-100 firestore failed, and Focus are unanvaliable with the guaratees, and dont make more fs-100, so please Barry or some expert can you please tell me what other options may I have

Thank you very much

Pedro.

Id seriously look at the p2 option again. Prices have come down a lot and there are always used cards for sale.

Failing that I have a perfectly working FS100 NTSC that Im willing to let go of :P

there arent a lot of DTE options out there... i think there may be like two (including the fs100)?
with the declining cost of P2, there just isnt a big market for it.

And what do you think about the Panasonic AJ-PCD2GPJ with a single slot, some reviews sayd that are so slowly, but with 3 p2 cards maybe can work well, experts please help me.

Pedro.

a AJ-PCD2GPJ is just a card reader. its not something to shoot to. i have one and it transfers about as fast as my pcmcia equipped laptop.

but again. its not a DTE. its just a device for transferring a full P2 card to a computer.

can you explain me if you have a pcmcia in your laptop, why you need this card reader of panasonic the AJ-PCD2GP?

believe me I have my hpx170 and I dont know what is the pcmcia? can you explain me.

thank you very much

Pedro.

PCMCIA slots are relatively common in laptops, not so for desktop machines. You would use the AJ-PCD2GPJ to transfer from your p2 card when a pcmcia interface is not available.

well, if your laptop has a pcmcia slot, then you really dont need the AJ-PCD2GP. the problem is that pcmcia is pretty old technology and fewer and fewer machines come equipped with that option.

the question comes down to what laptop you have and how you want to use it. the AJ-PCD2GP is for laptops (or desktops) that do not have a pcmcia slot. but DO have at least 2 usb ports. the AJ-PCD2GP requires one usb port for power and one for data

pcmcia is the technical name for the physical format of a P2 card.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_Card

as mentioned above, pcmcia is a fairly old technology. but its robust. there are a lot of accessories out there that use it and it is still very useful.

to my knowledge, very few desktop computers ever came with an internal pcmcia slot. 10 years ago nearly every laptop did. but these days fewer and fewer have them.

there is a thread here on the forum that lists current laptops that have pcmcia slots. i think the list includes about 12 windows machines. and apple abandoned pcmcia in favor of expresscard slots well over 2 years ago. and there are discussions about the variety of other ways to injest P2 footage.

but this is just for reading P2 cards. and none of this has any bearing on your original DTE question...

OK thank you WGZN i understand, about the PCMCIA now, so I have MACPRO that obviously dont have a pcmcia, and also have a laptop from mac, so surely dont have a pcmcia.

I was looking in bhphoto another dte the name is nexto and is about $550.00 it has 250gb hard disk, but you have to use your camera as a deck to transfer the data.

Really dissapoint me the focus fs-100, because the my two batteries failed, an dhe manager said to me, dont worry, you can buy a Anton Bauer battery that fits your camera and the focus, and the price is just only $1,200 only one battery with charger.

I think My option now is to buy the AJ-PCD2GP now and one p2 more card, so finally have in total 3 p2 cards and the AJ-PCD2GP. because the DTE my friend recommend me, GGRANTLY Idontknow if maybe I can loose quality in my footage.

Thank you all of you
Pedro.

Whoa. Although I'm totally clueless as to the FS-100, if the only issue is battery, I'm sure any competent electronics repair facility could replace this. Same for a bum hard drive. My guess would be the main circuit board would be the only thing unfeasible to repair. ..

Best wishes
