Barry, I just wanted to give you a heads up that I just placed my order for your lighting and sound DVD combo. I'll be anxiously counting the days until I get them and I look forward to integrating what I learn into a short film (possibly two) that I'll be shooting here in Kandahar, Afghanistan - *edit* - with my AF100! (Just in case anyone was wondering why I posted that in the AF100 forum)

Cheers,

Patrick Wells

Well, now that we know about it we can ask...

What are your shorts gonna be about?

Which country are you from and how/why are you in Afghanistan?

How careful are you being over there to not get blown up, or is that not a problem where you are?

Good luck, man. Looking forward to seeing your shorts.

PM's and email... gee, why didn't I think of that... thank you so much for sharing your wisdom mkfotos.com (*sarcasm*). Damn, I'm a cynical bastard sometimes. Sorry about that.

Barry's PM queue is full and I don't have his email address. The hidden intent of this was to let him know that I placed my order so he can look for it and get it shipped out quickly. I want them now, darn it! They'll take at least a week to get here through the Army Post Office system.

I'll be happy to tell you about the short(s) and my situation, Tyranasaurus Rex.

One of the stories will be about a soldier that wants to participate in the night time raids but is denied. Then he discovers why... the majority of his unit are vampires and their secondary mission to hunting the Taliban is to feed. It's a satirical portrayal of the dehumanizing effects of war.

I'm a retired US Army vet now working for a Defense contractor here in Afghanistan. I'm in Kandahar and it's fairly safe here as long as you don't have to go outside the base. Yeah, they fire rockets at us every now and then, but it's a big base and the risk is relatively low - in my opinion anyway. I'm used to lots of activity from my days in Iraq working with the Iraqi army and going to sleep at night to the sounds of explosions and gunfire, so my idea of low risk may not be the same as someone else's LOL

Damn, what a reminder of how relatively safe everything is where I am. Good luck on your shoots and hope everything goes safely.

Hi Patrick, yeah, I fixed the full inbox so that's not a problem. But I'm not really the guy to notify; that set of DVDs are sold by Wrightsville Beach Studios, and David Jimerson is the one who handles all order fulfillment. He normally ships everything out within 24 hours so I'm sure they're already on their way to you. Thanks, and best of luck with your projects!

Thanks, Barry. Yep, just got my email confirmation that they've shipped. WOOT!

Thanks, Kubrick. Cool to see another Arizonan on here. I'm from Sierra Vista.
