- - yes, we use mac, and yes we backup all of our projects on LTO. I suspect I need to write something further on our archive workflows soon.
- - - extra special thanks to you (and chakamonkey) for posting up the info on the HVX frame rate hack. there are a several parts of the clip below that contain the 2fps 350 degree shutter hack.

some recent work of ours shot on the HDC27 and the HVX202

Yeah - a big +1 to the above.

Great insight, and some fantastic specific help. So glad I made the trip from Canberra to come along. Barry, you've got an amazing understaning and knowledge of a very broad part of the industry, so thanks for sharing that.

Also, thanks to Rob from Panasonic Aus for putting it on, John from Lemac and all the other really helpful and interesting people who made the two events really in formative.

Yep...I was there too...(for first session)..and also say a big thank you...

was great to be able to fire all manner of questions...and receive such great support from Barry, Rob and John..+ chat with other users.

There is no doubt one of the biggest advantages of the HVX is the great support and community that surrounds the camera and DVXuser...(..and Panasonic and the Australian rep Rob really are to be commended on the after sales service etc.

projectsplat - that mazda promo was sweet!! Was it just the fast motion stuff that was done on the HVX 202? Are You using after effects too?

On the mazda promo Your compression was outstanding - to get such a high quality h.264 and great sound into 12.3 mb - i,ve seen 40 mb files that have less quality!!

what bit rate did you do your video and sound at ?

Anyway -i just wanted to say how good it was!

Wow, thanks guys! I love Aus, this is my third trip down here in just over a year. Long plane flight, but it's worth it. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy lives to come on over and listen to me rant! :)

The Mazda project was a lot of fun, but some very long hours. The bulk of it was shot on the Panasonic HDC27 Varicam, so it is really only the footage where you can see the heavy motion blur/high speed that we used the HVX.

We did use After Effects for many of the visual elements/highlights. We were lucky to be working with a great motion designer.

Compression was 1200Kb/s for video and 96Kb/s for audio, using Apple Compressor.
The compressor profile has been tweaked a bit, but mostly it looks so good because the original footage is so darn clean.

Cheers,

Thanks for that - the gold in - gold out rule applies!

Your motion / sound guy/s did a great job - fantastic synergy between audio and visual cues. video of that quality becomes pure art.
