I attended the Barry Green HVX seminar that was held in Sydney yesterday (Sunday). He mentioned that this forum is the place to be for the HVX user, so, as I placed an order for one last week, here I am.
As someone that attends all the seminars I can get my head around, I'd like to say that the seminar that Barry conducted was of the highest caliber, both in the way the information was delivered, and the way in which he managed to cover such an enormous amount of subject in the short time allotted. He was both articulate and entertaining. He was very generous with his time (stayed an hour after the seminar should of officially ended and if the lights hadn't turned off you got the feeling we would still be their now). In some ways he reminded me of Robert Mckee's story seminars that I've attended, opinionated, but right on the money.
Also, it's very easy to think when you are going to one of these sponsored events that the speaker is just going to be a mouth piece for the company (in this case Panasonic), that was clearly not the case here. At times you had the Panasonic rep cringing at the side as Barry dealt out his wish list for future HVX improvements, but at all times you knew you were listening to someone who believes passionately in the product that he was talking about. For anyone that is wondering whether they should attend one of these seminars, do yourself a favour, lob along, you'll be glad you did.
PS: Hopefully I will be able to contribute to this forum in a positive way, I'm an accomplished screenwriter and have made two DV features over the past five years among other things. I am about to embark on making my third feature using the HVX, can't wait.
