Barry Green: 4cam comparision question

Hi Barry Green or anyone who knows,

I´ve read the "Four Affordable HD Camcorders Compared" from January 11th and watched the samples.

Are the quicktime chart comparisions and the screengrabs directly out of the camera or did you do a HVX P2 - HDV tape comparision?

If you only took the picture from Canons HD SDI out, I suppose the pictures on a MiniDV tape would show a worse quality, wouldn´t they?

Did you ever compare Canons XL H1 HDV miniDV tape recorded material to P2/FS100 HVX200 DVCPro HD?

Can you post results?

Is the XL,XH material recorded on tape, edited on Avid and played out to HDV tape as good as the XL H1 pictures shown in the test?

Is the HVX 1080i (25p) material really that much blurrier than XL H1 material in real life?
Is the HVX´ red aliasing problem really that bad (couldn´t find any posted red-problem material)?

thanks in advance

If Barry doesn´t answer, maybe somebody else can...

Is there a significant resolution difference between the passthrough and the recorded signal on HDV minDV tapes?

Well, the HD SDI out from the Canon would be an uncompressed signal, and HDV on MiniDV is a compressed format.. Hope that helps..

I didn't do the post processing on that test, Adam Wilt did.

The HVX is nowhere near as blurry as those pics indicate. The Canon is a bit sharper, maybe 15% sharper. The HVX doesn't have any problem with reds, it has twice the color resolution than the other cameras.

HD SDI out is only an advantage if you capture it live from the sensor -- if the source is HDV material on tape, then the data is highly compressed and has half the color sampling of the HVX.
