Barry, clarification?

Barry, in your book you mention that to dump your P2 card to a drive it must be formatted by the camera. Also that there should be no other data on the drive.
I have dumped numerous clips to my laptop and transferred/dumped many of them.
I assume you talking specifically to a firewire standalone?

yes he is - the camera formats a drive directly connected to it - with a laptop in the middle the laptop becomes the disk controller and therefore the camera couldnt format it

Exactly. Copying to a laptop is entirely different; I was referring to 1394 HOST mode where the camera controls the hard disk itself.
