Barebones Avid Editing

Ok so my laptop loaded with Avid Xpress just crapped the bed. It's time for a new PC.

Here's my question to you:

What specs would you include to create sufficient HD workstation? I'm not looking to make the ultimate system (yet) but I'd like something that will work.

I know this question has been asked before and it's probably in the wrong system but any help would be great.

Thanks for the link. I'll probably base my system from those. Any other recommendations beyond that which Avid defines?

Well, if you like Macs, the MacBook Pro fits the bill just fine. Or any MacPro with NVidia graphics card.

But I gather you want a PC. Shame, Avid 3.0 on these Octo Macs, and my MacBook Pro laptop, is rock solid.
