BandPro announces package price for upcoming Sony F65

The RED Effect exists, apparently.

I'm intrigued by the mechanical shutter - looking forward to seeing that.

I'm also intrigues by how people are going to be handling 4K RAW when they already struggle (apparently...) with compressed RAW.

The specs are very impressive!
Anyone knows if it takes Canon and Nikon glass?
Can you also take photos with this camera?
Does it have autofocus?

Looks like Sony picked itself up off the mat & decided to come out swinging. Sure it's 3x more expensive than an Epic-X but it does out spec the Epic & offers a mechanical shutter & let's face it, before there was such a thing as Red this sucker would have cost $300,000 or more.

It looks like it'll be one heck of a camera; big, expensive, but good.

Now pardon me while I go back to shooting with my GH2.

The name references the 65k price point. ( body only, not bad considering the Epic M is 58k.... )

The F23 was a 2/3" Sensor
The F35 was S35mm sized sensor
The F65... is not 65mm sized sensor, but it is higher resolution than HD (8k sampled to 4K?) so maybe they named it that as to say it has greater resolution? Not sure.

I think the price point they settled on was ballpark to 65k and they probably just took the number there to be cute. F65 for 65mm. Who knows. Historically they name the camera off of sensor size, but this isn't following suite. I doubt they named it after pricing. That would be weird.

The RED Epic can take EOS Canon lenses and supports autofocus...
Why wouldn't the F65 be the same?

It would be, if Sony developed a Canon mount, did whatever engineering is necessary to characterize each individual lens, and bothered to create the firmware to support it. Will they do it? I kind of doubt it. Those who are shooting with Canon lenses (EFP folks like Steve Gibby) would much prefer the smaller size, lighter weight, and modular abilities of EPIC. EPIC is designed to be a cinema camera with the possibility to be other things. It's looking like the F65 is a cinema camera. Period.

Surprisingly competitive price! I thought they would sell it for $165K. It will give Red and Arri more than a few knocks.

65k is only for the body add the recorder and evf, media, etc... and your talking around 100k I am sure. There is a place in the market for this camera, just not many.

Here's what I'm seeing so far:

F65 with viewfinder - $65,000
F65RS (Rotary Shutter Model) with viewfinder - $77,000
SR-R4 dockable recorder - $20,000

So yeah...if you are buying MSRP and looking for that mechanical shutter and the recorder...it's almost $100,000 again.
