Balancing gh1 + kit lens on glidecam hd 1000?

If anyone has any experience with Glidecams and the gh1, can you please give me some advice? I have the gh1 and kits lens on the 1000, in the middle hole at the back, one weight on either side at the bottom, my drop time is about 2 seconds. The footage looks good but not great, like good handheld.

Do anyone extend the weight plates out at all? It isn't mentioned much on the how-wo videos on youtube/vimeo.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

A 3 second drop time will be better if you are just starting out.. and make sure you count with missisippi's so it's really a solid 3 seconds... It'll have more inertia and be less responsive but that's good... Just really try to minimize the pendulum...

I also think taht the steadicam users guide book is really awesome to pick up.. Great drills and skills and it all takes time. Don't be in too much of a rush to get going.. Take the time to make sure it's balanced in for and aft.. back and forth... you'll get it, it's just not a quick process.
