Balancing a stabilizer

Hey guys, I'm gonna be using a friends stabilizer on a shoot and I would like to know how to balance it. It's kind of like a glidecam 2000. Any tips, tricks, must do's, and must don'ts? Thanks

What brand is it, and model #. How many pounds will it accomodate ?
Does it use an arm and vest, or just your wrist ?

I had a hell of a time balancing my glidecam 2000 pro when i tried following the included instructions. It was only after I saw the tutorial on their website that I was able to figure it out.

Here's the page you can download it from: http://glidecam.com/videos.php

What turned out to be my problem was that my camera was too light. I added a washer to the baseplate (sandwiched between the baseplate and the camera) and it balanced nicely.

Good luck - and be patient.

Be sure to allow yourself LOADS of time to practice.
You will need about a week with a basic handheld rig before you can start to produce repeatable (controlled) shots.
Picking it up on the morning of the shoot will only lead to frustration.

Also it helps to have someone around who knows what they are dooing to help out if possible. If it's your friend's unit, perhaps s/he can help you set it up the first time you practice with it.

Piggybacking Mikko's comments... Get a Cstand and balance it where you have both of your hands available to make adjustments. When you are having to make a minor washer move and then pick up it just slows everything down. Use a Cstand and it will save you half the time

i have posted several comments and threads about this, use the search my friend :) hope it helps!
