balanced vs unbalanced

Ok, let me ask this- if you are connecting two lengths of cable, is that going to cause interference to be picked up? Say, I need 50', and have two 25' XLR... or a 25' XLR and a 25' 1/4"?

You have asked two separate questions. 1. Connecting cables. 2 Connecting two different types of cables.

As long as the cables are wired properly (and similarly) connecting them together to make a longer run is fine.

A 25' 1/4" cable (unless it's a really beefy TRS cable) makes me very nervous.

For some reason, I always just assumed that the metal connectors would be a weak point, allowing noise. As far as connecting two different types of cable, you know how sometimes you need one thing, but have something else? Just like to know what to expect before I run into that situation.

well with 1/4" connections you do have more problems, but good XLR connectors should be fine.
