Bagpiper at the marina

Hi,

in my eyes it doesnt look synchron... I dont like if you listen to music and in the picture the person is playing something else or not synchron with the music...

Even the close-ups got an strange unsharpness... looks like a bad used software shift/tilft-effect :)

sorry for the critic... its not personal... just my first thoughts when watching it.
 
Thanks for watching. You're right, the sound didn't match the cutaways. I only shot for about minute, so my b-roll didn't match exactly. He was just playing for some pre-ceremony entertainment while we were all waiting.

If he were to hire me for a full production, I would do multiple takes of the same song for continuity's sake.

As for the tilt-shift shots, I'm still getting the hang of Magic Bullet. It was good software with a bad editor. :)

The only way you can tell if you're in synch when shooting a bagpiper is to actually know which fingerings go with which note. Their breaths can be anytime- they're filling the bag with almost no relation to the music--- but the foot tapping should go with the rhythm. I've shot many, many bagpipers- sure freaked me out the first time I realized they could blow into the bag whenever. i thought all my footage was messed up. Luckily, my whole family plays instruments, and my wife is a music teacher... The footage looked pretty nice to me- nice look-- but everybody is definitely using a lot of post-production these days....
