Bag advice for Tascam DR-70D?

FWIW, I found that the bag I purchased for the DR-60D - Strut STR-DR60D Field Case fits the DR-70D as well (I have both). I think it all depends on what you're going to carry in your audio bag. The bag I linked to is very small, and not much other than the 70D would fit in (the bag also has a pocket), but it has a couple of loops you can hang things from (cable, or headphones etc.). It comes with a harness. I personally like it exactly because it's small. Now, if you want it to function like a regular size audio bag with wireless lav control etc., this is not the bag for that purpose.

I did in fact ask this very question - bag for the 70D - not long ago, and did get some recommendations:

Audio Bag for Tascam DR-70D

Those recommendations are still good!

OldCorpse,
Thank you very much. I missed your original post. The Strut bag you linked to is like what I had in mind. So it works well with the 70D also?
Any chance a USB battery pack would still be able to still be used? I hear the Tascam eats batteries

Well, funny that you should mention that, firehawk - that was a big point in my thinking about the bag for the 70D (and 60D) - I need the bag to hold a powerbank to power the 70D (and 60D) through USB. Answer: depends on the size of the powerbank. I have several. Not all fit. But for example, I have this one, and it fits perfectly into the pocket of the bag I linked to:

Anker Astro E5 16000mAh External Battery Pack

Btw. the best way I think to go - unless you are concerned about weight! - is to plop 4 batteries into your 70D and then also power it from a powerbank through USB. When you set the 70D to take power from the usb, it does that, and then when the juice is exhausted it switches seamlessly to the 4 batteries - perfect!

Speaking of batteries, I bought these Amazon Basics Rechargeable ones - read here why these in particular:
[h=1]AmazonBasics AA Rechargeable Batteries (8-Pack) Pre-charged[/h]That way I figure the power problems are solved no matter how long your shooting day :)

firehawk, if you plan on using those rechargeable batteries extensively, then the Eneloop batteries mentioned in the above review is worth the extra cost. They are $2-3 a pop, but work flawlessly.

And +1 on the Anker.

Well, it's not a newer version per se, it's a different model - with higher capacity (and correspondingly higher price) - but regardless, it is too large, it won't fit into the pocket. I have a Chinese one, rated an alleged 50,000mAh (which I don't believe for a second) that's a whisker larger than the size of that $79 Anker Astro E7 you linked to and it won't fit into the pocket at all (and cost only $18, but you can get it even cheaper, for like $16), and I've had to run it outside of the bag (to power my 60D), and I must admit, so far I've run it for several projects off just one charge and it still keeps going, so while I simply cannot believe it's 50,000mAh, it is not trash either. I use the Anker to power the 70D.

Anyhow, there was an even earlier discussion of a bag that I started for a small recorder like the 70D - the predecessor, the 60D - so maybe you can find some additional perspective there:

Let us talk bags - BAGS!

Here is a great audio bag from ORCA. New to the market these guys know about Bags. We've seen lots of their audio bags moving, as well as camera bags and backpacks. With different size bags this is a good option to look into.

That photo is not the right bag for the DR-70D. Orca does not make any bags that will work with the DR-70D, and as far as I know there isn't one out there yet.

My apologies, I realize the larger battery is a different model. Amazon worded it in the link as the newer version but I know what you mean. Anyway, everything you linked to OldCorpse looks great. Sorry about straying off the course to talk about batteries. I am trying to get together a list and order everything at the same time.

You guys are all helping out a lot. Thank you very much. You also brought to my attention about the ORCA, since the DR70d is new, there may be more bags released soon. I expect the 70d will be popular

I'm the owner of Strut Cases, www.strutcases.com , and I just wanted to clear up a few things on this thread. The STR-DR60 was not designed to fit the DR70. The proper case is the STR-DR70. There are details on the website, or I would be happy to answer specific questions. My personal e-mail is john@strutcases.com . Features you might find interesting for comparison: free lightweight chest harness (HAR-2), front pocket sized to fit 2 Sennheiser G3 receivers with inside web to clip to and through the wall wiring port . Pocket can also be used for aux. powerpack. Easy battery & mic access on the bottom, and access to 1/4-20 threads. Full disclosure, the on/off/pause button is in a tough location from a bag design perspective. I left the velcro open at the top of the cable-cuff so you can get a finger in, or you can leave it untethered on the right side to access the button---Thanks, I hope that helps.
