Bad Vertical Banding - GH2 [video]

http://vimeo.com/19916097

It was much worse on the original, I compressed it to 480p in Premiere and Vimeo compressed it some more, but you can still see it here. Look to my right above the books in the bookcase. It's a little brief but you should be able to see the banding "flowing" up from the bottom to the top, most noticeable in dark bits. Download the original from Vimeo to see it a LOT more clearly. Film settings:

Filmed at 24L, (1080/24p)
Iso 320
Aperture priority film mode
Auto white balance
Aperture 4.0 on Nikon 50mm f/1.8 using AF mount.
Using "smooth" mode. Same thing happens with Cinema mode.

Trying it out with my Panasonic 14-42mm lens so see if it yeilds the same results.

i see horizontal flickering, nothing vertical that i can see with my naked eye. your shutter speed needs to be at the same speed as the frequency of the lights be it 50hz or 60hz or whatever. you can see visual confirmation on screen as the flickering disappears.

It bears the symptoms of the shutter being out of sync with your lights. Did you really use 500 watt tungsten lights? Was there perhaps a fluorescent light on in the room? Another test you should do is with the exact same settings but using only sunlight. If the problem still exists in sunlight, then it's something I haven't seen before.

They are 2x 500w Halogen lights. It's possible that one of the room's lights was also on, which would be a 5-10w energy saving bulb.

Great to know it's my lighting and not something wrong with the camera. As Mr Fanny pointed out, there's an error in the title - it's horizontal, not vertical.
