please dont focus on the edit quality- i did it in about an hour

instead take a look, how can i get a better picture, many of the shots seem washed out. I tried playing with white balance but it didnt seem to get better

what i THINK i did wrong was having the wrong shutter speed- it was really bright but i still used a 1/48 shutter speed (i think) or similar.

Just for reference, what settings would you have used for shooting this video

i'm still learning, and not afraid to admit that:violent5:
thanks

It seems to me like you just need to tun on the ND filter for some of these shots. ND filter acts as 'sunglasses' and will stop the white areas of the image from being 'blown out'. You'll just have to open the iris a little more to make sure the darker portions of the image have enough light.

ah yes ok, that makes sense, i'll try that

what shutter speed would you use for brightly lit action sports scenes like this where fast moving objects are needed to be captured smoothly and clearly with minimal blur?

Start with 1/125th and go up from there but use your zebra stripes as a guide for exposure. If you don't know how they work, try to find the time to learn. Using zebras is a key to getting good exposure in your footage.

By the way, do you live in Sammamish, Washington? If so, I live right on Pine Lake :)

Reminds me of when I did BMX freestyle when I was younger.

hey, how did you make the red stay while the BG was gray?
After Effects ?

its an effect called "One color" i got from a plugin in FCP- cant tell you the name of the plugin though sorry

Nice Bike Jumps.
for the most part the footage is just over exposed, as said above just get to know your zebra mode !
