I'm telling you this because there's a good chance my life is in danger.

For about a year there has been a man (Ali) living on the 8th floor of my condo building. He is disgusting. He buys thai girls and lao girls every night. Usually he buys them in pairs or one after another. Sometimes 3 or 4 a night. The guy must be the quickest gun in the east ....or foreplay is not on his list of "things to do."

Anyway, 3 weeks ago the guy brought home (in the middle of the afternoon) two young girls. And I mean YOUNG!!!! Turns out they were 14 and 17. I called the police and they came and arrested the guy. Knowing he has a lot of money and will most likely buy his freedom, I spoke with my friends; the governor, mayor, and chief of police. (Name dropping pays-off.) I also had my college students and the tenants of the apartment building write a letter to the police requesting this man stay in jail.

The guy stayed in an actual prison for 3 weeks and was released today. So you would think this guy would have learned his lesson, right?

NOPE!!! Just moments ago the guy had another girl delivered to his home. Then, after an hour, that girl was picked-up and another girl was delivered. I talked to both of them and also the guy that delivered them. They knew me because they recognized me from tv. I'm telling this pimp, "Don't come back here again." and he says, "Hey aren't you Mr. Kirk from tv?" Crazy place. Whenever there's a problem people just smile and ignore it. Nothing matters here.

The police came again tonight but I told them not to do anything. I will let the man enjoy his night of freedom, but tomorrow I'm going to give him some options. Everyone here has told me to be careful because he will probably pay someone to get revenge. Everything here is cheap. Including revenge.

I want to let all of you know, in case anything happens to me, that you all have been like friends to me. Although we've never met I feel like I know each one of you. And those who donated to my projects, you really believed in me and you all helped A LOT of people. Thank you.

Not sure how this drama will end, but I hope it's a happy ending.

EDIT: The girls were 12 and 15. Also, he paid about $5k for his freedom.
 
You are such a brave person to stand up for that place and turn that guy in. I've lived in SE Asia for a couple of years and I know it doesn't take much for someone to do something horrible. Be careful. I was in KL Malaysia and there was this guy from Nigeria who started some trouble with a vendor in "china town." The vendor warned him but he kept getting in his face. All of a sudden the vendor pulled out a bat and went to town on this guy. But that's not the worse part. As soon as the first vendor got his bat out, the others near buy did the same and they all worked this guy over. You got to be careful. I have other stories as well, but you get the point. I wish I had more advice for you PK but good luck, and watch your ass. Maybe keep a machete near your bed, I don't know.

Is there something you can do involving PR? Maybe a doc or short piece that raises awareness?

Doing the right thing takes courage, but to do it in the face of possible physical harm or other retribution, now that's heroic.

I'm not doing anything special. Seriously. Each one of you would have done the same thing if this crap was happening in your building. And John, I've seen you in a muscle shirt, you could kick this guys butt, easily. Could you be my bodyguard? Please. The pimp I'm not worried about. He's a little dweeb. Which is why I confronted him. Although my thai is pathetic so the words probably came out as, "You bad stupidhead man. You go now!"

Edit: Barry - LOL! :) Actually I've got a monopod propped up near my bed for protection. This has probably been asked before, but which monopod is best for a severe beating? I've got a Bogen.

Take John's advice, you need to come home. Dude, only if I can get a hold of my cousins and uncles there. Just keep your eye out and be cool. There's lots of courruption there. Becareful!
 
PK, it really is wonderful to have someone in this community who constantly stands strong in their beliefs and takes action against those who think there are no rules. You have done a tremendous amount and your humility speaks volumes for your intentions. As a fairly new member of this forum, I have to say that you are one person in particular that I have come to admire, both in your filmmaking endeavors and also in your humanitarian work. Do watch your back, and please keep us posted! Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!
 
this post makes me really sad. maybe due to lack of sleep, but more likely because of the life these young women have to live.

That is a very tough spot to be in PK. I am bad at that sort of thing and I'm afraid I would hire some big guys to drive this prick out of town VERY physically! and not wait for him to make a move. In the meantime load up with mace, pepper spray and nice heavy pieces of pipe hidden around your home. See, I get all twisted out of shape just imagining your situation. If you're not going to return to the U.S. Maybe it's time for that nice long vacation you owe yourself...Let it blow over. Whatever you choose to do, my thoughts are with you. Try and stay safe!
