Bad Nikkor or Bad Adapters?

Looking for some experienced insight here...so I recently decided to try to standardize on a fully manual lens line that I could use on both the Canon APS-C and the GHx's. The Pentax SMC M's are out because (1) they're stupid expensive and (2) the 35/1.4 is nonexistent.

I decided to go with the Nikkor AI/AIS and dropped some dough @ KEH on the 35/1.4. Got my Nikon F to 4/3 adapter, put the lens on, and focal range is practically nill stopped down anywhere past f8. Lens is completely useless.

Thinking it's the adapter, I ordered a Pixco Nikon F to EOS adapter and try the same lens on my Canon - same problem. I know the cheap Pixco adapters are decent because I have three of them for some Pentax M glass and they're fine.

So, does anyone have any experience with these Nikkors and these Fotodiox 4/3 adapters? I have read people having similar experiences with Nikon lenses and these adapters. Is this a bad lens? I thought about going to a camera store to try to put this lens on a D3S

Any answers? I will probably start the RMA process with KEH tomorrow which is a real shame!

What do you mean by "focal range is practically nill stopped down anywhere past f8" does that mean it works at F1.4, and even up to F5.6? And "focal range is practically nill" does that mean you are unable to focus or are you talking about depth of field?

Infinity focus is @ 3 ft when you open the lens up (which i would be doing constantly for low light shooting) I worded that wrong - i see the source of your confusion. the only way the lens becomes usable is TO stop down the lens to f8 and beyond (which makes it useless to me and everyone else here i would gather).
