Bad news: Pansonic DVX Rebate Delays

I just got off the phone with the Pansonic rebate center. They had issued my check; however, there is a 4-6 week wait after your check issue date before they actually mail the check. Then after you have your check in hand, there is another 8 to 10 week wait for the 54 Ma battery and the 10 dv tapes " if they are not backordered". They are experiencing a shortage at this time so"who knows?" Kind of scarey that a company like Panasonic would offer a promotion and have such faulty service after the sale.

thanks safford. thats good to know. i've been waiting on my rebate check for over 6 weeks now and was really beginning to wonder what the hell was going on.

"Kind of scarey that a company like Panasonic would offer a promotion and have such faulty service after the sale."

i agree.

If you bought your camera solely to collect a rebate and a battery, and this is somehow critical to your project, you shouldn't have made the purchase.

Panasonic have not said you will receive nothing, so saying "Kind of scarey that a company like Panasonic would offer a promotion and have such faulty service after the sale" is foolish.

Rebates of any form are well known to take quite some time, and backorders are also well known.

I was pleasantly surprised to get my check a month after purchase - much quicker than many companies I've dealt with. The batteries and tapes are starting to feel like a lost cause, though others have been waiting MUCH MUCH longer than myself. By the time we get them many will have upgraded to the HVX! As with most rebates, I don't expect anything and then if they come through it's like an out of season xmas gift. Personally, I'd much rather have 2/3 the cost of the rebate and merchandise deducted from the original purchase price and just be done, but I guess the psychology of getting merchandise "for free" is more marketable. Though I've been super-impressed with the thought, quality, and effort to listen to customer desires by Panasonic, I find rebates to be a lame practice by any company. Seems like a headache for everyone - consumers and manufacturers alike.

I'm going to go ahead and not only disagree *heavily* with:
"Kind of scarey that a company like Panasonic would offer a promotion and have such faulty service after the sale."

But I'd like to take it a step further and thank Panasonic publicly for going the extra mile with me. I purchased a camera when only the $300 rebate existed and was extremely happy to be getting that check back in a timely fashion. And I did. And then all of a sudden - 4-6 weeks later a pack of tapes and a battery all showed up at my door, though I was completely aware that I didn't qualify to receive them. I didn't make a single phone call or complaint -
What a loving and caring company.

Thanks to whoever made that happen. I am pleased and recommend Panasonic constantly to my customers.

please don't get me wrong here. i am not bashing panasonic.
but i do happen to be a video student. a video student who pays his own way, and is definitely relying on that rebate check to help me out right now. so please understand my concern when i am told i will receive a check in 4-6 weeks, and i am still moneyless on week 7.

thank you john. but i wouldn't be caught dead with an xl2.

When I bought my camera, I got the Magic Bullet software (by surprise, mind you) and a really kick ass camera. I was extremely happy with that.

Ill disagree with the mob. Panasonic is a huge company and SHOULD honour its clients more readily than this. I have never waited 10 weeks for a rebate on purchase for anything.. and Ive had maybe 3 or 4..... Longest I waited was four weeks.

However, if you are dissatisfied make sure you let them know.

Yep!! If *X* company is going to offer a rebate like this, they should have the forsight to plan ahead and make sure there will be plenty of *stock* of the items being bundled with the package. Seems like a cluster F right now. 4-6 weeks + another 8-10 weeks? WTF?

PS - Don't get the XL2

I base any decisions for purchases on the item I want, not any "incentives" of "freebies".

To make a purchase based on what do I get for free, or how much will I get back, tends to indicate a poor understanding of consumerism. If you need the rebate to "live", you should have purchased a camera within your financial means, not extend yourself beyond them, then "moan" if the "extras" are late. Companies sell products with rebates and extras to dump stock when a new product is about to be released, and thats exactly what's happening here. It is also well known that companies are hired to handle rebates, as Panasonic have done.
A rebate or lure of free extras shouldn't be the reason you buy anything if you can't afford it in the first place.

congratulations.

but not all of us are uber-rich glide-cam operators.

please pardon me buying the camera i wanted AND expecting to receive my rebate in a timely manner. obviously i have a “poor understanding of consumerism”.

Don't feel bad, SplitVision. Pookie is smarter than and superior to everyone, not just you.

Wow, this is heated. I bought my camera in may and got my rebate check in the beginning of July, but have yet to receive my tapes and battery. I would have bought the camera with or without the rebate or "freebies".

Am I disappointed with my purchase? No

Do I wish I already had my tapes and battery? Yes

Is the DVX still the best camera available for it's price? Yes

So, I guess I'm saying I wish I had my battery and tapes, but it's not the end of the world. I do get excited about checking the mail every day just in case they came!

What your personal problem with me is, I have no idea, if you'd care to PM me about it, we can discuss your concerns.

I shall look forward to hearing from you.

Ok, these messages look unprofessional. As for my opinion on how to avoid negativity in forums, is to not post the negativity at all. Seriously, because when I see this, I see anyone who has the time to debate or offer an argumentive opinion is someone who is not worth anyone's time. Yes I'm sort of contradicting myself saying this, but it had to be said. I point this example to Pookie, when you state something knowingly its going to get a response, your bound to get some disrespect, I wouldn't assume it's anything personal. (;

Now as for my input on this topic.

I'd purchase this camera because it's what I want, but I'm a poor sunnamabch so I look for value. If I buy a camera knowing I can get an extra 500 back, that'll easily pay for some necessities I may need. And with gas this high, i think we could all use that 500 dollar bonus check. ( :

Take Care!

I agree with you on that point Pookie... just the company IS offering the rebate so they should be prepared to cough over the rebate within a timely period. Seems some got thiers and others are waiting months. So the service levels seem very up and down. If I was waiting 10 weeks Id be screaming blue murder. For example someone may have made the purchase and thought great Ill need an additional battery ... WOW its in the rebate I WONT buy another now. Then they are using the camera and having issues because they dont have enough battery time.

I agree that there should be better preperation on Panasonic's behalf regarding the tapes and battery promotion..... But then again **** happens.....
