bad lag and slow rendering

Hi, I am currently using the newest version of FCP and im having some issues. I am getting jittery playback on some clips and i dont think I should be. My computer had 12GB of RAM and I wanted to buff up the rendering time and speed so I bumped the RAM to 16GB. I just started to notice that the playback of the timeline is a bit jittery on the video and audio. The rendering hasn't changed either. I thought it would speed and smooth things up a bit but it is almost worse. Anyone know what I am talking about or ever had this problem?

I havn't exported anything yet to see if it shows on the export file but it's hard to properly edit when things are all jittery.

Oh and I'm using canon 7D

Lots of missing information here. Assume that we can't see your computer.

Which Mac do you have? Which OS?

Which codec are you using to edit your 7D footage?

What are your project and sequence settings?

Is your media on your operating drive, or on a separate hard drive?

How full is your operating drive?

Hey,

1) copy your media and transcode it with either the canon plug in Final Cut or Mpeg Streamclilp to ProRes (DVCproHD if on a Mac G5)
2) put your media on an external drive only - on a Raid (don't fill it up too much like past 90%) Use Esata or Firewire 800. 400 is passable, USB 2.0 is a no no. USB 3.0 not enough support yet.
3) put renders on a different Hard drive if possible - along with FCP caches
4) don't fill up your operating drive with media
