FEATURE: Bad is Bad - My first feature (with trailer!)

Nice work guys. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but will when I get a chance.

Are you guys still based out of Virginia? Or, do you all make the left coast jump?

Thanks guys! I was very hesitant about putting it online, but so far people really seem to dig it.

It's funny about that tripod shake Trucci, I know that most people are going to interpret it as accidental, but we noticed it when filming and I just thought it looked cool and added some intensity to those shots, so I didn't do anything about it. If I could go back though I would have fixed it.

Ikander, me and Chris (who co-produced, co-wrote, and played Jesse) live in LA most of the year now, studying at USC. We're only home here in VA during breaks from school, which is when we filmed this. Most of the other people involved with the movie are still in VA though.

Good to see you guys are out here studying at USC. I'm actually studying at Chapman, and about 75% done with my first feature ( http://vimeo.com/26794667). Would definitely like to meet and network with you guys. It's good to know other younger filmmakers serious about their craft and pushing the envelope.

I just finished watching the whole film.

Great job! You guys should be very proud of yourselves. The cinematography, score, and acting were all very good. Next time you shoot dialogue inside of a car, attach the car to a trailer and have a truck pull it (google Camera cars to see what I'm referencing). Your sense of pacing and suspense is very good!

SPOILER ALERT
I'm not sure about the last scene, it's a bit random and doesn't provide much in terms of "aftermath" of the story. Also, I would've started the film off with Jesse rather than the jerkish high schoolers, since Jesse is the main character. The gas station scene really didn't serve much of a purpose in terms of plot advancement. I like Jesse's partner in crime, he's an awkward, non-traditional criminal which is refreshing. The score is very good and helps build suspense. I'm not too crazy about the rape scene, while memorable, it was a bit too disturbing for my taste.

I look forward to your next project!

I watched 22 minutes of it last night and then had to take off...it's actually pretty good and I'm looking forward to watching the rest tonight. A few questionable cuts/pans here and there but overall it's really good.

I think that if this is your first feature and you want to do this professionally then you're off to a very good start.

Thanks for the feedback people!

Good luck with your feature D.Mur, and respect for taking the plunge man! Keep me posted on it and we'll stay in touch.

SEMI-SPOILER ALERT
I know what you're saying Jackson, the high schoolers are really only in the movie as a thematic element. They do make some people scratch their heads a bit, but I think the juxtaposition of Jesse and Ray's day with that of the "bad" suburban kids their age was a nice way to frame the movie and put the 2 characters in perspective.

Just watched the whole thing. Nice work, guys!

There are definitely some technical snafu's here and there, but hey, the good far outweighs the bad. Loved the sound editing. The way you combined the sound of the lawn mowers, with the wind chimes, with the drone of the score was awesome! What microphone did you use?

Also, some of the shots were just really well thought out. Great direction. Loved the dolly shot/pan shot when George goes into his house and you turn the camera to reveal the white car. Great stuff!

I'd love to work with you guys on anything--especially if you ever make your way back home from time to time.

Thanks Ikander, during production we used a Schoeps cmc641 plugged into a sound devices 302 (both rented) and recorded with a H4n. The additional sound design and sound effects elements were mostly recorded in post with a couple of different mics we rented, can't remember the names though. I'll let you know next time we're filming back home man.
