Bad image... Pic inside

Did a short last weekend and while working on the edits I couldn't fix the pixelated nightmare that I am experiencing. I tried using deinterlacing in FCP but it didn't have any effect..... How do I fix this and why is it happening?

Thanks guys.

I really need to stop checking the board from work, on a PC.
...er...
Assuming all of your import settings were correct and your sequence settings are as well, have you checked the RT playback settings? Everything turned to "high"?

So the first question to answer is: Does the original tape exhibit this problem right out of the camera onto your TV? If so, then it's a camera setting. If the tape looks good, then something isn't set correctly in FCP.

Yo Coffee,

I agree that it looks "bad", but it's not too bad.
You could do a split screen with another scene?
And, Your viewers may gloss over it if the content is the hype.

Thin detail setting will produce that sort of stair-stepping on diagonals. Best to use that only if you're planning film-out or uprezz.

You got Magic Bullet?

Throw one of the diffusion settings on and tweek. It may be able to lessen the jagged edge. (you'd probably then need to throw the same filter on the rest of the show, or at least that sequence.)

Or... is it just on that one shot? If so, can you cut that shot out of the movie, or better yet can you reshoot it if it really stands out to you? Sometimes it's easier to fix at the root of the problem then trying to mask in post.

It also could be a misinterpretation of upper and lower frames. Try capturing a small sequence on the oppsite frames to see if that helps. It looks like it's doubled up for some reason. Usually, even in thin mode, the jaggies aren't that intense.

Ok, I just watched the raw footage and it's like that on tape as well....... grrrrr.... lol so, am I stuck with this or is there a work around it?

magic bullet?
uprezzing?
apturing a small sequence on the oppsite frames?

AAAAHHHHH!!!! This is driving me crazy!!! I need some help... I am having the same problem!!! I shot today in 30p. I imported into final cut with the normal setting DV/NTSC 29.97... but the footage looks horrible. heres a screen grab or three:

Notice the pixelation on the edges of everything.... whats the deal with importing progressive guys? how do you import so it looks as clean as interlaced when on final cut.... because the progressive that i imported looks completely fine on an NTSC monitor.... what is the deal? im sick and tired of trying to deal with this stuff...

any help is greatly appreciated..

you know what I found interesting? Robert Rodriguez appeared to shoot Sin City on a lower contrast, so there wouldn't be edge bleeding and he could get clean screens. I have been meaning to test it out, and I think that's what you've fallen a victim of.

okay i was wrong... we actually shot in 24pA... but im still in question about why 24pA footage looks pixelated in fcp, but fine on an NTSC monitor.... like this happens every time i shoot 24pA, even though i import it right... capture (advanced pulldown 2:3:3:2) and sequence (23.98 fps) everything is on high quality, and the fottage always looks pixelated... especially pixelated on the vertical lines, thats where i see the main problem, the verticals.

any thoughts??
