Backup Cam

I am looking for a good backup cam to an HVX. I want something that's footage will be able to be intercut with the HVX's footage occasionally but be under $1000. I am not interested in getting another expensive used camera because I also want to use this camera in situations where I don't want to risk bringing the HVX (such as to make ski videos). I first thought of the HV20. Then I found that there are many simialr camera Canon offers:

The HV30: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539289-REG/Canon_2680B001_HV30_Vixia_HDV_Camcorder.html

This camera seems to have identical specs to the HV20 but it is 300 dollars more. What am I missing? How is this camera better than the HV20?

This is the cheapest of the lot. What sacrifices would I be making. Why is this camera so much cheaper than the rest?

Then there are the internal Hard drive and Flash memory camcorders. Will the footage from these look better? If so, which of the following looks best and why?

The HG10 HD AVCHD HDD camcorder: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/516695-REG/Canon_2183B001AA_HG10_HD_AVCHD_HDD.html

The VIXIA HF-100: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539291-REG/Canon_2708B001_VIXIA_HF_100_AVCHD_Flash.html

The VIXIA HF-10: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539290-REG/Canon_2573B001_VIXIA_HF_10_AVCHD_16GB.html

So, yeah, any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The HV30 has 30p and slightly better noise reduction over the HV20. The HV20 is cheaper because it became really popular.

The solid state cams record full 1920x1080 in the AVC codec which is superior to HDV1080i/MPEG2 at 1440x1080 (HV20&30), but they most likely have smaller image sensors due to a smaller body. A smaller sensor means a higher signal to noise ratio which means more noise. I've also read that the AVC codec hasn't been pushed to it's potential in quality as much as HDV.

The HV20&30 are a noticeable amount sharper than the HVX, but you can fix that in post.

The HV30 is probably you're best bet since it's cheap and the 30p mode is great for sports.
