I need a backpack big enough to fit the HVX and my Macbook Pro in. It can just have one strap to sling around me. I have a pelican case for normal travel, but I can put that on my when I riding my motorcycyle downtown to shoot a little b-roll and the chill at a coffee house to edit. Anyone have any suggestions? There are alot of nice backpacks out there, but I have seen none that will fit the bill.

Incidently I kinda regret right now getting a macbook pro. I'm I've taken Final Cut Pro 101, 201, 300, and 350. I'm in an Avid 119 class and I'm totally sold on the Avid now. Oh well. At least Avid works on both.

What makes you sold on Avid?
Ive used both and prefer FCP.
Also interested to see what backpack people post here because i have the 15"macbookPro and an HVX200

I have a LowePro CompuTrekker Plus backpack which I carry the following

HVX200
Powerbook Titanium 15"
Lacie d2 Hard Drive
2 Lav Mics
Headphones
Collapsible reflector
Cables, Power supplies

Everything doesnt fit exactly but good enough. But the backpack is sturdy so i dont worry about the camera too much. It might be a little big or heavy for riding around on a bike, but I think they make a smaller version.

Thanks for the tip! Nice. It says:
Size (Main): 13W x 5.3D x 18.9H in.
Size (Notebook): 11.6W x 1.9D x 18.7H in.

17 inch Macbook Pro - 10.4Wx 1.0D x 15.4H in.

Great in all but that 5.3D. You are right The HVX just needs a little more. Still . . . .

As for AVID
1. It can do just a little more when it comes to editing. But I admit it's not as user friendly and I would not know have the things if I didn't take the class.
2. All the menu fuctions and buttons can be saved as button shortcuts and will load automatically. You can also can save them differently for different work setups.
3. It does 1080pa just fine. I can't say the same for FCP.
4. It uses MXF files natively. So there is no waiting for a conversion.

I have the Kata HB-207 and love it. It holds my hvx200, steadicam merlin, p2 store, vidled light, rolleiflex camera, mic, macbook pro 17inch along with all my cables and bits and pieces. It is comfortable on my back with lots of adjustments for fit. I also like the fact that it sits upright without toppling over. It also fits in the overhead bin on planes. Great backpack very happy!
