backpack steadycamera rig?

Not sure if anyone has seen the documentary Rize but i just finished watching the behind the scenes footage and noticed that the DP was using a steadycamera rig that was made from a backpack. He had a backpack with a rod sticking out of it, then a string hung from the top and dropped down to the camera. Has anyone seen this type of contraption for sale? If so, would it work with the DVX 100a and where could i possibly find it?

Thanks for any info.,
Rob

This is a really interesting product. I sent an email to their US distributor (16x9inc.com) to request pricing information. Anyone know the cost of this?

It's more of an camera support than a stabilizer. It allows the camera to be position anywhere on, above, in front of your shoulder.. and distributes the weight (like a Steadicam) but it won't make the footage much steadier.
It's designed to take the wieght of a ENG or broadcast (heavier) camera so that youc an use your hands to manipulate the camera, not hold it.

I'v heard good things of it though, it appears to be a very good tool for what it's designed for. (even if it is swedish made! :-P )

I have a customer in Sweden that I am going to contact to see if he can find out the local price on the product. Despite not being an "isolation" device, its applicability as a basic support seems like a very valid idea. The backpack version (Tortlerig) seems like an excellent pairing of support and transportation all rolled into a single product.

It will be at the upcoming DV Expo in L.A. if you want to try it in person. I saw it there last year.
( edit) They had a U.S. competitor called Marzpak but I think they went out of business.
