Hey folks,

I'm prepping to do a documentary about the life of a motorcycle racer, and I was considering to get one of those backpacks that would hold my DVX as well as a tripod, and accessories. I thought this would be best since it would help me quicker when i do run and gun, as well as reduce fatigue from carrying in hand or a single shoulder strap.

What are my options? After seeing ads in video magazines with guys and their cameras on top of a mountian with only a backpack seemed good for me. So do you have any suggestions or comments to what I should get? Is there a better solution? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tuan

Re: Backpack for DVX

I'm using a Lowe-Pro Mini-Trekker pack for my DVX. I'ts well-made and looks like an oversized daypack. It has a nice tripod mounting system as well that will accomodate small to medium sized sticks. It also holds a decent amount of gear and the current model has a built in rain cover that will protect your gear in a downpour. The pack doesn't stand out in a city like the larger packs that make it look like you're about to climb K2.

I have the Compu-Trekker AW for my DVX. It has provisions for attaching a tripod to the back (basically a fold down pouch that you would put one of the legs into, and then you secure it at the top), but I have yet to test it out yet. I keep saying I'll send a picture of it in so others can see how I have it laid out, and how much gear it'll hold, but no promises :)

The Compu-Trekker is identical to the Mini-Trekker, except for the laptop compartment.

i found in our local skateboard shop a nice back-pack that could be easily used for a camera. you can design the inside partitions just like in other camera bags.. and it looks so much cooler :)

Yup, I have the Compu-Trekker. I've used it a bit now, including several times with it stuffed with camera, accessories, and a tripod on back. It does a good job holding everything and is moderately comfortable. It is rather large. Removing the space used for the laptop would make it a bit nicer for handling. I haven't used the Mini version so I can't compare.

I have the portabrace BK-3 and it's pretty awesome. Aside from the storage space inside and customizable pockets, it has a big zip up pocket on the side that I can fit a Glidecam Stuntbar, a monopod, and a grip bracket. You could put a video head and tripod in that pocket pretty easily.
