Back Up HD to a Tape with HVX200

Hi all,
very new to the video game but am already learning that shooting HD takes a LOT of space. Is it possible to copy the full res video files that I have downloaded on my computer back on to a tape using my HVX? What, if any are the obstacles or downsides of doing so?

The reason I ask is because I hate to get rid of any video no matter how bad it may be. Trying to keep this all on my computer would get costly very quickly whereas tapes are relatively cheap. Thanks in advance.

Certainly... Many of us prefer to use various hard drive backup schemes, but to tape all you need is a Panasonic HD1400 (or the older 1200A) deck and firewire or HDCAM deck with a capture card appropriate to your system. Since around $25K for the HD1400 is a bit steep on my budget at the moment, I prefer to offload the files to hard drives.

You can back up footage to the tape mechanism in the HVX but it will not be HD, as the HVX only records SD mini DV to tape. As nsoltz has said you can back it up to DVCPro HD tapes using a very expensive deck and tapes that cost around $30 each for 1 hour. My hard drive storage cost right now a running at about $8 per hour of footage and I didn't need to spend $25k+ on a deck. I spent $100 on a drive enclosure I can just keep dropping bare drives in when I need to. As one fills up I take it out and put it on a shelf with a print out of the finder folder so I know what's on there and then drop another in.
