B stock hvx200

Hey guys,
Alright so I finally got enough to get my HVX and I called Specialized communications and their out): I have a shoot next week and can't really wait, and frankly waiting at this point probably would make my hair fall out from anticipation(: They do have a B stock one available that the lady said was sent from Panasonic. My question is how would panasonic get a b-stock cam to get sent out? They don't know the history of the unit except that isn't considered used because it wasn't sold. The warranty is only good for 3 months versus the 12 months...Why? Anyhow if anyone can give me any info it would be appreciated. Oh and please spare the obvious answer, "get the camera somewhere else"....I have just enough to spend at the specialized communications price..thanks

I talked to the same lady. It sounds like these were perhaps ones that were returned for being faulty then repaired and Panasonic may not want to say the exact history since no one would buy a once faulty camera. It may also be that they were display models.

A B stock camera could be anything from a camera used at a trade show to a camera which had been sent for evaluation to a dealer, a writer (such as myself) or even a Panasonic field rep. There could be any number of reasons for it. I have bought B stock product before and have not had a problem. If you are concerned about length of warranty, you could always add the Mack warranty and then feel as protected as new. I was tempted to grab the B Stock camera myself, but didn't pull the trigger. Also, Specialized Communications is such an exemplary dealer that I would not hesitate doing business with them. They would do their best to make it good.

If a camera had been used as a demo, one possibility might be modifications made to the default scene files. You can reset those to factory defaults and then begin tweaking from there. It may have a few cosmetic dings (I didn't ding my loaner camera but others might not be as careful as I am).

I guess my bottom line is that to me, the $300 savings wasn't that big a deal. Now, if the savings were $500 (or the price of an extra 4 gig card), I would go for it. Also keep in mind that with most electronic gear, electronic failures would occur sooner rather than later, so you could be safe with a 90 day warranty.

Just some rambling thoughts on the matter...

Call Tommy Mack at EVS in Burbank (818) 552-4590 and tell him you would like the DVXuser.com discount, he may get it to you for that price.

If you have a shoot next week you are not allowing yourself much time to become familiar with this camera -- might not be a better option is to shoot it with your DVX?

No disrespect intended -- I want for you (and the client) to enjoy a happy result . . . "murphy's law" don't overlook it.

Either way, best of luck!

The woman who I talked to claimed that they'd gone ahead and had their engineres make sure it was in perfect working order but I also would be a bit weary of it for only $300-$400. There are a lot of places that have good packages however. After all, you are gonna need at least 1 P2 card. I got the NAB special a while back that gave me the camera, 1 4 giger ($650 at the time), and a camera bag ($100) for $5750 so I ended up getting the actual camera for only $5000 (actually make that $5100 since the bag was pretty crappy and I had to grab a better one).

Thanks again guys for all the tips. THoff led me to full compass...so far a great experience! I got the cam for $5,276 shipping included. It's cool cause they're a certified panny repair shop as well......ahhhh I can feel it, yes peace of mind(: Then My credit card refunds 1.25% to take a little more off Looks like a pretty sweet deal all together.

how much are they asking for it? I buy B stock all the time. I'm one of those people that thinks if it's okay after a month of use, it's probably fine. The catch is of course it has to have a good discount. B stock rules.
