FS7: B&h

Purely curious - did anyone pre-order from B&H and get it already? I have not ever pre-ordered a camera from them before.

Someone said on the "availability" thread yesterday that theirs had just shipped out from B & H yesterday. They were having second thoughts about buying locally instead, so maybe B & H will soon have an extra!

I pre-ordered from B&H on 9/19. It shipped on 11/25.

The process was pretty much like ordering anything else from them. They don't charge until shipment, and you don't get any sort of notification or warning before the shipment notification beyond the standard order confirmation.

Wow thanks. So it does help to buy from a local dealer. I ordered around the same time and got it I believe October 17th , don't remember the exact date.

I cancelled my pre-order with B and H. Purchased from a small dealer in L.A.

Now, I only pre-ordered from B & H on Oct. 30 and gave up waiting around Nov. 17 after hearing that a B and H rep supposedly said they would not be shipping any more Fs7's until mid-December. ( I was renting an F5 and losing around $1600-$2400 every week that I could not get the Fs7 )

I was told by a Sony rep that Sony prefers to send early models to smaller dealers over B and H. Something to do with how B and H pays Sony for the stock. Sony receives the payment from small dealers more rapidly then from B and H. I think it is fair to say that Sony underestimated the early demand for the Fs7. I label it a faux pas on the part of Sony not to have the FE 28-135mm lens ready with the release of the camera. Those who pre-ordered the set or "kit" are still waiting to receive the camera.

Yep. I heard similar. Basically, B&H is so big that they tell Sony "Hey, send us a bunch of cameras and then we'll get money to you in 60 days." whereas the local shops pay cash up-front for cameras. I also canceled my B&H order way back in early November when I saw that Texas Media Systems got some in stock. I paid in full for the FS7 and was able to get one rather quickly.

There are various market forces at play here. You say small resellers, I say value added reseller. As a VAR our approach is much different than larger box sale places. Some of us "small guys" offer after hours calls and tech advisors, for local folks we can sometimes hand deliver and make house calls for service / repair. Did this yesterday with a client here in NYC - different product but same approach, we also don't have hundreds of people in line and will package and do creative things to help the buyer.

Different strokes for different folks. Big box houses and small VARs. Both are needed by the manufacturers.

While i definitely use B&H a lot, when it comes to camera packages I almost always prefer a VAR for all the reasons you mention. Thanks for the insight.

Normally I buy from B & H, but this time opted to call EC Pro Video in NYC. Josh called me back in a couple of days with a camera, put my name on it and shipped it out today. Early next week I expect to post some sample footage. It'll be my first time shooting 4K .

I got mine from BandPro, they are great and I like that you can always talk to the same person in my case John Fishburn. He is very knowlageble and helpful and I have bought several cameras from BandPro, I have always been pleasantly surprised at how quickly I have had the camera.

If you are looking for a new camera I would definitely give John a call.
