GH4 B&H Now Sells the Mitakon SpeedBooster Adapters $138

On the one hand you have the universally acknowledged "best in class" Metabones. On the other hand you have claims that this time the clones really got it right, and you can get MB quality, or close to it, for 1/3 the money or 1/4 the money, sure there's controversy, because 9 months ago a test showed that the clones were ridiculously inferior, but now it's 9 months later, and new models... no new tests to prove it, but hey, new models and new hope! OK, so I look at this situation, and see $450 vs $100-$150, and I ask myself, do I pay $300 extra for the universally acknowledged "best in class" MB, or do I roll the dice and hope the clone is "good enough"? After having paid for the camera and lenses through the nose, I figure an extra $300 is not worth spoiling the image, taking the chance and otherwise being penny wise and pound foolish. I've bought cheap stuff "to save" too often in my life, only to discover it was money wasted, since I had to buy the better stuff later anyway. My verdict: I buy the Metabones. Your Milage May Vary. Unless there is a new test that PROVES the clones are as good or nearly as good, I'm doing the safe and sensible thing... but that's just me.
There have been dozens of comparisons and tests showing that. The speed booster has stronger optics that are evident in the corners, especially on photos. For video though? The difference is minimal at best. The RJ version comes very highly recommended elsewhere on the Internet, and after reading many reviews, it's the version I ended up purchasing. I love it.

Oldcorpse, here's my own test I performed the day I got my RJ. The RJ and Mitakon have been head-to-head in the third party markets lately, some claiming each is better for some reason or another. I went with the RJ because I found more information readily available about the quality of it, and because RJ himself is actaully a really nice and accessible guy that responded to my emails. I could actually ask technical questions about the batch and quality, etc, and he would answer me. Also was very responsive during post-sale follow up inquiries. I would definitely buy from him again, but its pretty cool to have B&H stocking these stateside now. Waiting for shipping from China was arguably the worst part about purchasing these.

Unless there is a new test that PROVES the clones are as good or nearly as good, I'm doing the safe and sensible thing... but that's just me.

Blindly trusting any product – including the "market leader" – is hardly sensible. The most rational approach is to compare all options.

The difference in image quality is negligible. Really a matter of preference vs. one being "better" than the other. While I like the slightly wider FOV on the Speed Booster, it's hardly worth $300.

The area in which the Speed Booster is clearly better is build quality. While I was perfectly happy with the image on the Lens Turbo (I now use it on my B-CAM) the movement from the loose mount fitting was visible when doing rack focuses. The Speed Booster locks tight.

I have different Lens Turbo (Canon FD mount) in which the fitting is quite snug, so it seems to be a quality control issue, not an inherent design flaw. YMMV.
