B&H is refusing to replace my camera

After due diligence and with Jan's help, B&H got caught again switching a USA camera with a grey market camera - I'm begining to think there's more going on here though.

Per Jan I've attemped to return the grey market camera, not to hear back from B&H. When I called, I was put on hold and then told there was an item missing from the box. EVERYTHING WAS SENT BACK TO THEM IN PRISTINE, MOSTLY UNOPENED WRAPPING. I then explained that the camera, other that being turned on, was never used (and mostly remained wrapped) since when I tried to register the camera I began running into problems. I reexplained what had happened and that instead of getting the US camera I was sent, well, whatever this thing was and per Jan, I sent everything back.

He puts me on hold, and when he gets back, NOW THERE'S MORE ITEMS MYSTERIOUSLY MISSING. Now, I've been a bit miffed at this whole thing, but now I'm MAD. Then he goes on to try and tell me it took a while for them to get the camera back and why was that. I tell him it first I got the camera and tried to register it, and then was told no go. Went back and forth with Panasonic a bit, then eventually talked to Jan. She verified that the camera was not a USA model and instructed to me to send it back. Talked to B&H went back and forth with them. Sent the camera - then nothing. AND IT'S MY FAULT THAT I FINALLY CAUGHT THEM PULLING A BAIT AND SWITCH???? HOW LONG WAS IT (IF EVER) THAT THEY WERE PLANNING ON TELLING ME WHAT THEY DAMN WELL ALREADY KNEW - THAT THEY HAD COMPLETELY RIPPED ME OFF?

He then puts me on hold again. This goes on for over half and hour. Each time he's trying to tell me how this is missing or that is missing and he can't authorize a replacement, but I don't back down and don't hang up. I don't know what they tried to ship me - maybe it was even USED?

I go through the entire sequence of events again. Then he asks for Jan's number. I say okay and start to get it - then he says NEVERMIND.

Eventually they said that "They'll call me back."

UNBELIEVEABLE...

The repeated reports of this conduct by B&H is very disturbing. Many states have effective consumer protection agencies that will provide advice on these kinds of things, if you haven't tried that already.

I have to say I have had negative experiences with B&H as well. I will now buy from them only if they have a significantly lower price than others and I am in NY so I can inspect the item immediately and return it if necessary before I leave the store.

wow...that is awful....that's not the kind of service I would expect from
B and H. Sorry you had to go through all of that. That really bothers me
that a company such as B and H would treat you that way.

I am surprised they would try this tactic..... they do alot of large scale buisness and this does not seem like there normal practice.
I do find them terrible to return items to- if it is missing a small piece of peanut foam they will not take it back.

What a terrible way to start off using a new camera.

I'm having the SAME experience now with B&H and a D200 they sent me that died after under an hour of being turned on. This thing is completely unresponsive. They don't help after the sale... I'm very angry with them and they are my people (that comment didn't help greese any wheels there either)

I've completely stopped going to B&H because every time I walk in there I get the worst customer service on the planet. Adorama has been a much better experience for me and they usually have many items that aren't in stock at B&H, and at the same price.

I certainly hope there's more going on here. I will be happy to investigate this and see what is what but right now I cannot find either this transaction or a customer named "John Alton Disciple" in our database.

You can e-mail me and I will investigate.

i just made a purchase through BH 30D ..well see when i get it if everytghing is ok. I got my dvx100a from them when they frist came out and i had no issues.

I really hope they get their act together. I've come to reallie on them for their great selection, low prices, and good service (at least from what I've experienced). They need to address these things fast.

Okay, here's where we're at...

I've received a phone call (4pm) stating that a new camera will be sent today/tomorrow with tracking information to follow. Let's see how things go this time. Assuming I get it, I'll send the serial number Jan's way and see what she's got to say.

CHARGEBACK!! Don't mess with criminals!

CHARGEBACK!! Don't mess with criminals!

Thanks for exposing these idiots. My client was getting ready to make a large purchase from them. Of course we will not use B&H (Bull and Hot Air) anymore.

To get a refund, just charge it back with your credit card company.

They are ALWAYS on your side
