B& H Cheap 5D?

That price is right, but keep in mind you'll pay import duties when it arrives in Australia.

The recent flactuations in the dollar show just how much more we pay for cameras here in Australia. The fact that we can add 15-20% import duties and overseas shipping yet still pay several hundred dollars less than buying in Aus says something about how much we are overpaying domestically.

The 60D is a particularly good buy from the USA, as it comes in just under the $1000 no-import-tax threshold. After currency conversion and shipping, we can get the body only for under $1000, $300 less than the street price here. That's enough to ship it back and forth to the USA a couple of times if you have any warranty issues, and still have change.

I completely forgot about import duties. I bought my previous camera from the states and didn't pay anything extra and that was around 3K?

I spent 1.3k on a lens recently and paid no import duties. I guess it's a gamble.

It depends on luck and also on the retailer. Some places will put a lower value on the customs declaration to avoid import duties being passed on to the buyer. However if Customs randomly inspect the package they can then adjust the declared value - easy for them to do once they find the tax invoice or price tag.

False declarations are illegal and can have further repurcussions, which is why many reputable retailers will not declare false values.
