B-Cam for Varicam HDC27H - HPX170

Looking for a B-Cam that matches well to the HDC27H. The obvious would be to pick up a 2nd HDC27. But also considering the HPX170 which would allow us to get shots/angles in confined areas. Both cameras will be output via HD-SDI to AJA Ki Pro recorders recording ProRes. How well will the HPX170 match up? HPX170 or 2nd Varicam? Thank you in advance.

Well, if you already have glass, tape Vari's are ridiculously cheap. Cheaper than a lot of 170's. Granted the 170's appear to be packages with batts and other gear, but still... Quick look on eBay shows the cheapest Vari at $525. I paid $45,000 for mine. That's a hell of a hit on the depreciation. Lol.

I have a client that has a couple of 170's along with a lot of other Panasonic baby-cams. The once or twice that I used the 170, I can't say that I particularly liked it, but I hate using pretty much all baby-cams for all but the most rare occasions.

Thanks Run&Gun...Just researched some forum topics. Didn't realize the HPX170 is 8 bit HD-SDI out. Prob a waste to go out to a Ki Pro Mini ProRes. How well does the 170 intercut(internally DVCPro HD) if going out on a Varicam to Ki Pro using ProRes?

debating the pluses/minus of an HPX170 and HDC27H:

HPX170: lighter, able to get shots where the Varicam won't, easier/lighter for crane and steadicam shots.

HDC27H: 2/3" chip, 10bit HD-SDI out, same picture quality as A-Cam
