Awful live performance.

Wow. How bad is this?

On so many levels. Horrible dancing, horrible concept, horrible SINGING (if you can call it that.) Wow....terrible. It's like watching a train wreck. Even the sound mixing is bad :D

I almost thought it was an SNL parody of this type of thing...I mean it's not funny so it well could have been...but no, just a real, awful, real awful performance.

i like frickin laser beams just as much as the next guy, but my god, how did music like this make it this far? and as a drummer, watching that guy play drums in that spacesuit was embarrassing...his resume just took a hit.

What was wrong with it? She sounded pretty good. I wasn't crazy about the astronauts, thought that was a hoaky gimmick that misfired, but she sounded good.

Of course, I'm a guy who as a kid saw Tom Petty's first performance on SNL and turned to my brother and said, "poor guy. he'll never go anywhere." So, what do I know?

I didn't go so far as to actually watch SNL but I heard it was that MacGruber dude. It was a skit. You know, to be funny. Or something.

+1
If it sounded horrible, you might find this shocking.....you're getting old. It happens to the best of us.

EDIT: I just watched the entire episode. Tiktok was a revolution of both sight and sound and should be regarded as nothing less. The 2nd song where she dressed up in day-glo body paint was insufferable. :2vrolijk_08::Drogar-BigGrin(DBG):2vrolijk_08::Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Can we all just agree that the skit with Jeff Twinkle and Greg Stink was hilarious? "Wanna avoid the stork? Get a vagina cork. The Today Sponge: 80% effective."

I couldn't find any coherence in the production. What with the choreography, costumes, lighting, weird laser thing, confetti, and American flag, it was just all over the place.

It's about performance art rather than just singing. Pop stars have been doing it for years, i.e. Devo, Madonna, Lady Gaga, etc. So, it doesn't always make sense. But I don't think that's what they are going for. I think they are going for visually interesting.

Yes but the singing was awful and so was the performance and dancing..just...really poor. She looked like some person they just found on the street or like a marionette with some strings tangled...it wasn't interesting it was just lethargic and dull.

I just have to ask cuz I'm curious, Ben....have you not heard this song on the radio like a million times? Were you expecting something amazing?

I'm just busting balls here, but to say this was horrible is like saying the sky is blue, it pretty much goes w/o saying.

Not that I don't find this thread entertaining for some reason....

Now when Jessica Simpson's sister had her debacle on SNL...that was a trainwreck!

i think the two biggest problems with a lot of the music today are:

1. much of it sounds much worse live. it's sad when a song is so much improved by computers and audio editing that it doesn't even sound like the same person when they try to sing it live.

2. marketability has replaced singing ability. you've got groups like the jonas brothers that are marketed to us as some legit band, but how many of you can name even one of their songs?

I'm not a fan, but when I watched it during the live broadcast, she didn't sound bad at all. That web clip has some compression making it sound weird.

I'm just not hearing the awful singing. With all the audio processing in the music industry these days I'm surprised she sounded close to what she sounds like when she's on the radio.

Different strokes I guess...

shame isn't it?

it's a luxury as a filmmaker to not have his/her ungraded film shown on network tv for everyone to pick apart.
