Award Winning Music Video shot on just the Sony NEX 5 camera

Some of ya guys are pretty harsh on this music vid. However Polcan99 the title of the thread seems to be rubbing people the wrong way. Its a professional video but it has its faults; not sure this would be considered award worthy.

I think there was a video competition where you have to use a lower end camera.... don't know what other awards this could win, it's a standard low budget rap video.

Great vid.

All the street shots looked awful (in regards to the image quality the camera outputted the grading plus it looked soft in my opinion).

The shots on the boat / sea looked pristine and sharp, so did the studio shots with him against a black background. Those shots coming from the 5R are amazing in my opinion.

I don't know if this video is award winning or not, as a novice I am impressed with what was done with a sub 500 dollar cam. I own the a6000 and just purchased a a5100 a few months ago. This type of work encourages people like me to go out and be creative with the tools we have. We have come along way since the days of miniDv. I agree the street scenes looked weird, is it the color? I bought the a5100 because of the xavc-s (50mps) video, will the extra data help in grading or where will I gain the most? I know a little offtopic but I am always curious to tap into knowledgeable folk.

I will concede that my wife's iphone does nice video and photos, but a nex camera like the a6000 or a5100 are far removed. The aps-c size sensor coupled with a fast lens gives a lot of control over depth of field which can be helpful in crafting your story. Maybe not so much for a youtube or smallish screens, size does matter. But seriously they used some serious stabo hardware aside from the iphone, and lens attachments. I still will agree "your imagination is your limit" with in limits.

Okay. Lot's of rudeness here. The most important thing in filmmaking is getting off your ass and doing something. And you can do it with cheap gear.
This is obviously not shot on an ALEXA. But cheers to all the content creators out there that don't give a **** about the kind of camera they have and just go out and create.
We are all geeks. But we are storytellers as well - otherwise we are not filmmakers only technicians.

Yeah, definitely some brute criticism going on. It's generous to be honest, but constructive and kind words often reach the intended goal much more efficiently...if the goal is to help.

I know that Mr. Anton posts a lot on YouTube and has worked with much more sophisticated equipment. I suppose this might have been a budget constrain (?). Given this, I'd say he did a decent job with a humble camera. Plus, even with an F5 you can be gettin an extremely cinematic shot, then you reposition and all of a sudden it's videoish. Even though we know what to do to get cinematic images most of the time, sometimes it's hard to explain what makes something scream video when you were getting great shots from a different angle away just minutes before. I'm saying this because with a more limited camera it becomes harder to avoid the "video" trap.

Given the circumstances, I think the results were pretty good.

Although I have to say, I too am curious to know what award it has won ;)

Some serious dickishness here. Looks miles better than most anything I've ever shot. Street scenes look fine. When did everyone here get their ASC cards?

I think it looked good. There were a few shots that looked softer, which made
me wonder if it was the cheap cam, but in other places it looked pretty sharp.
Honestly though it looked very good. Better than I could do.

I guess I assumed the softness was youtube compression or export settings. . .i.e. that was not the highest quality file they could have output/uploaded. If that IS the best it could possibly look, different story.
