AVVCAMViewer useless for backup?

I´m on a week shoot and tested the AVVCAMViewer before we left. It seemed pretty bad, but at least it worked. And it was made by Panasonic.
I did not try to use the copy function properly, and it turns out I need to use that for the viewer to see my clips.
Ok I thought, no big deal. Then I tried to copy a 16GB card that had a 12GB used. I started 2 hours ago and it´s still onmy 50% done!!
How is that possible? I really hope I´m doing something wrong, please enlighten me.

I need the viewer for my director to look at rushes in the evening AND I need my card for shooting.

I tried to rename a folder and put it in the AVVCAMViewer folder, but it said it had no clips (wich it clearly had)

And I thought Sony made bad viewer software, but that´s high end compare to this rubbish

This software isn't all that intuitive (I'm on a Mac if that makes any difference). Yesterday we offloaded two 16GB cards and they took just over 17 minutes to copy using a really cheap sdhc to usb reader. In order to view clips that you've copied to a hard drive you have to be very specific about where the clips are in the 'HDD Settings' menu before you can see it in the 'Playback' menu. I don't really like the playback interface either since there doesn't seem to be a scrub function.

Totally blows, and I'm looking into other alts, but I always have FCP with me and use the Log & Transfer window to review footage and double check the transfer.

The software works for back up. I have a slow older pc laptop and it will still transfer a 8 gb card in under 6 minutes. It will only play back about 15 frames a second because of the slowness of the computer. I create a new folder for the footage, insert the reader with the card, and then open the viewer software and click on copy card to pc and browse to the folder I created.

Hi. I'm on a mac too. Happy to hear you have fast transfer speed. Just to make sure, did you use the software to copy? Copying normally only takes me 8 min. Really wonder what happens here.
I have final cut, but the director don't

Yep used the software - mainly just to test it out.

Looks like it might be her Mbp that is the culprit. It seems to be very unresponsive. I will have to do some tests tonight.

Thanks bgundu, I have looked into it in the past, but I made an Automator workflow in OSX that took care of multiple backup and individual naming of folders. That was for SxS cards with XDCAM footage though.
Maybe I´ll get Shotput this time around. Still ccan´t view the footage though
