Avp2...why?

Okay; it sounds like you have enough contact with the writers, to have a better idea than I do, what they thought they were up to.

It's extra-pathetic, to think that this team was intimately familiar with the source material, and big fans of it, too, and still diddled the doberman so badly.

Still, watching the movie they ended up making, it's tough to believe that anyone involved had any particular feel for the material. Even if they did.

an even weaker cast this time....wow

an even weaker cast this time....wow

this may blow out spiderman 3. what are you guys talking about?

Sad Max, I just checked IMDB, go check out their profiles and you will see that they are obviously familiar with the two franchises. Add in the limitation from the studio and it is hard to make something that actually feels like an Alien or Predator movie. I would say that is the biggest factor in why it would feel that way for you.

However, it doesn't explain why the movie itself was god aweful.

What is inexplicable to me, is that James Cameron has gone on record saying he actually LIKED Alien Vs. Predator. Even the guy interviewing him about it was mystified by his positive opinion--

http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22405

JAMES CAMERON: ....Then I saw ALIEN VS PREDATOR and it was actually pretty good. (laughs) I think of the 5 ALIEN films, I'd rate it 3rd.
QUINT: Ummm...
JAMES CAMERON: I actually liked it. I actually liked it a lot.

I could understand saying you liked it better than 3 and 4, but he said clearly he thought AVP was actually a good movie...I would say Alien 3 is a better film, but not by much. Alien 4 and AVP are hideous pieces of garbage I actually regret spending time to watch.

I WILL GO ON THE RECORD!!!

I rank my alien movies in the order they were made. I am also a big fan of Alien3, especially the extended version.

Resurrection, was a pile but at least it had elements that made it an Alien movie. It was violent, it flows much better, I have been able to rewatch it multiple times. The underwater scene is cool.

I can't even remember any 'cool' scenes in AVP. I think my favourite part, which I would also say is the scariest moment in the movie, is when they first get to the abandoned mining town and a guy is in a shack and the penguin walks out. Everything else BLEW!

the best scene of AVP is when u see the facehuger launch @ screen...
when i saw that at the cinema i yelled out " its a flying VAgina"

everyone burst laughin'...... and then the movie sucked

Jim's been working very long hours, lately.

I'd chalk it up to lack of sleep.

The two brothers seem to be trying there best to get this right. Tom Rothman went on record saying this flick was going to be a hard R.

Also the Brothers are answering questions in the forum usually every week.

About time I did another one of these. Probably should have made a newsie last week when Colin gave this big spoiler away about teamups in the Q&A Topic.
  • There will definitely be no human-predator teamups in AvP2. That's probably a big story spoiler and in my opinion, it's definitely a big plus point.
  • We'll possibly see something new in the stages of the alien life cycle that we haven't seen before.
  • When they were shooting AvP2, they moved to a new location almost every day. They spent a lot of time shooting in forests. There wasn't a lot of stage work until the end of the shooting schedule.
  • As Newt said "they mostly come at night... mostly" - we won't be seeing the aliens in the daylight.
  • The directors had an on-set weapons expert and several actors went through assault weapons training.
  • Still isn't a definitive number on how many aliens there are in AvP2 but there'll be "a lot" more than three.
  • We'll be seeing how the Predator "operates". Probably POV shots showing him hunting like he did with Dutch's team in Predator.
Well, what do you think of that? The news about there being no teamups is great. I think AvP2 will no doubt restore a lot of credibility back to the Predator franchise after the damage AvP did. Thanks to Colin for posting.

Another week has passed and Colin Strause has answered more questions in our Q&A Thread.

  • They were hoping to get the edit locked down last month so that full scoring and sound design can be finalised for music composer Brian Tyler.
  • When asked whether the Predator would have acid-proof weaponry/armour, Colin said the Predator would be "well prepared for battle".
  • About the Predator facial characteristics, the Predator in AvP2 is their own unique design - Similar to the Predators in the first two films - Wiser in his years. The Predator's face will be fully animatronic including its eyes.
  • We will see chains in the sewers or elsewhere - reference to Alien.
  • The colour of the aliens are "blackish silver". The slightly different colour seen in the ADI Book picture is due to the set lighting.
  • Talented comic-book artists were hired to help the directors with their storyboards. They also did CGI pre-vis for the big sequences and pre-edited a huge portion of the film before they started filming.
In other news, Greg Strause said on IMDB today that the AvP2 poster is being worked on. The poster and the AvP2 website should be up soon.

Credibility?

Somehow, credibility is not a word I reach for, when describing a movie about slobbering nasty alien kill-beasts pounding on each other.

Credibility dfoesn't come to mind, either, when the directorS on a single show, somehow feel it necessary to basically advertise an uncompleted project with constant updates for the public...

...but admittedly, that's just me.

Boy oh boy I can't wait for this one. I'm gonna camp out 24 hours in advance for tickets. I haven't been excited like this since Phantom Menace. :Drogar-Evil(DBG)::Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Just wondering . . .

If no one cares about this movie, why is this thread still alive? :2vrolijk_08:

'cuz it's a beloved franchise and it's fun to ***** about people screwing it up...?

Tough to tell much, from the trailer. Except that there were good ingredients, for a trailer.

Well the best thing about this trailer is, after watching it, there is absolutely no need to spend money on the actual movie. It's all right there in that 1 minute. :)

Don't you hate that? You'd expect that they keep out some of the good parts and show just a few but nope, gotta squish the whole movie into a trailer.

I was pretty close to blackout drunk when I saw AVP. Now, seeing it in that state it was, well, it was.......it was still bad. But almost bad in a good way....

No, wait, it was just bad....

But still, to be completely honest, will my guy friends and I rent this and get plastered while watching it....probably

It's called the AVP: Requiem drinking game. Chug everytime someone dies a horrific death. Or utters a the line "Run!".

good times, good times
