Avp2...why?

Did they actually make a profit on the first one? Isn't that the only way the stiffs in the boardroom approve of a sequel?

i think if they make it rated R like AVP1 should have been it could be good. IMO that's a lot of the problem with the first one.... and the acting as well...

Apart from the story, style, substance, acting, material, concept, and execution of the first film I thought it was brilliant.

There was exactly one good thing about AvP: casting Lance Henriksen as the Weyland of Weyland-Yutani. And that was about it.

As for it making a profit, I'm sure it did--it was probably made before Germany closed that little tax-law loophole that let people make movies essentially for free. With that gone, though, I don't know how they expect to make anything on this one...

They made the first one 10 years too late for anyone to care. What makes them think this will be any different?

Wow, not just one, but two directors.

They're gonna direct the crap outta this movie.

Or, maybe, into it.

[tongue in cheek]Too bad they didn't get Michael Bay to direct it. Hell, they could have even brought Ben Affleck on as leading man... [/tongue in cheek]

Oh and I hope to god, that a human chick cannot kill Aliens better than Preds can. I can't believe how stupid that was.

If they were to do anything, they should have just had the girl from the first one go with the Predators and end up being the human female Predator from one of the comic book storylines. That may have actually been the first series of AVP if I'm not mistaken. If they did that then they would have a much better story to follow for a sequel. Unfortunately for all AVP fans, they didn't.

However, one thing that bothered me about the first one was how much it seemed that everyone involved wasn't even knowledgable about the idea of AVP in the least, hence why the movie seemed to be more of an Alien movie with Predators in it than an actual AVP movie would have been.

Oh, by the way, what do you guys think of the story that they listed? Doesn't it sound so straight-to-video?

Everything about it, sez 'direct to video.'

Movie adaptations made by people with zero familiarity with the source material, appear to be more the norm, than the exception.

I highly doubt Anderson had zero familiarity with the Aliens or Predator series. He just made a bad movie.

The end product didn't particularly suggest that he did. It's even less suggestive, that the writers did.

When you are forced to make a R rated movie, into something that was PG in certain parts of the world, I doubt it will look like you have familiarity.

It is easy to say what you are saying. But the writers as well as the director have a huge love and understanding of the Aliens and Predator series. I believe all but Anderson have worked either on a Alien or Predator movie or a game or a comic in the past. I am pretty sure most of them, have more familiarity than most if not all people who post on this website. While I have never been a fan of Anderson, when AVP was first announced, I was excited because I saw him in an interview talking about how much he loved this films and how many times he had watched them.

In the end, with the restrictions, they just made a bad movie.
