Not absolutely positive, but I do believe v5.5 supports the pal 1080 formats in 1080i/50. What it doesn't support yet is the 720 pal stuff. Edius will do it all though
Jason
Avid doesn't have any direct support for 1080/24p or 1080/25p, but they do support 1080/50i, so you could edit your 25p as 50i. Just be careful with graphics & titles and things like that.
Thank you for your fast reply, that is very nice of you. I am debating between getting
Avid Xpress Pro HD or final cut studio to use with my PAL HVX. Since the academic version of Avid is so much cheaper i was thinking maybe to get that. What does 50i mean in practical terms? If i want to be able to check my footage in the field is Avid going to be a pain?
The difference is one is 720 lines of resolution. the other is 1080.
Then there is progressive and interlaced.
The hvx is capable of different modes in 720 and 1080.
720 is progressive only. no interlacing there. and it has pn. Meaning it records exactly the amount of progressive frames that you select rather than using a pulldown method. It also shoots variable frame rates
1080 can shoot interlaced or progressive. When shooting progressive, you have 25p and 25pa, for example. You have 2 different pulldown methods to choose from. p is 2:3:2, and pa is 2:3:3:2.
I think that is right.
and of course you have your 480 (standard def) modes as well. either interlaced or progressive.
avid is capable of doing most of the hvx recording modes except for the pal 720 stuff, I think.
Edius can do any mode that the hvx shoots
I believe that fcp has all of them covered now with the latest release, which is 5.1.2
vegas and premiere don't support dvcpro at all, so you would have to get raylight, cineform, or dv rack in addition.
