Avid Xpress Pro HD Editing

I have Avid Express Pro HD. I am wondering if there is a way I can edit my P2 content without having to move all my MXF file into the same folder.

I would ratter keep my original P2 File Structure and not have to duplicate my data. If I were on a Linux(Ok... mac too) I could just create symlink or hard link to the same file so my content wouldn't be duplicated. But is there any other way ?

I dont want to be in the long run be stuck like Mac User with FCP by having to keep the P2 and keep the Avid Media Files at the same time.

(I want to keep having access to my footage using P2 Viewer)
 
I know Avid work with native file, my problem is I am looking for a way to either map a network drive to my c:\Avid Mediafiles or beable to tell Avid to use my network drive where my media files are
 
If you don't mind tying up your P2 card, Avid recognizes the MXF media as-is as soon as it sees the card as a disc drive. You don't have to move the files around at all.

Normally, though, you are going to copy the MXF files from your P2 card to your hard drive anyway, so does it matter where you copy them to?
 
I think copying to the /Avid Mediafiles/ dir is the only way. You could copy the whole contents of a card to a folder on a drive. But if you want Avid to see it, it should be in the root of a drive. You could use a hack, and use the windows/dos command 'subst' to assign a folder a virtual drive-letter. For example: copy everything from a P2-card to the folder "c:\p2card-001\". Give the cmd "subst f: c:\p2card-001\". A new drive "F:\" appears with the P2 contents, which Avid recognizes. Problem is that you run out of driveletters after Z:...
