Avid Xpress Pro 5.7.2 Error Message

When the program starts and gets to "Initializing Audio" it says, "Exception: failed to initialize audio Hardware" and the program closes. Plenty of ram, 3.0 processor, Realtek HD auidio drivers. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Disable the Realtek (I'm assuming it's onboard sound) and buy thee a Soundblaster Audigy card of some flavor ($50, probably). Realtek is bad news with Avid.
 
Indeed. Avid is very particular. Especially where soundcards are concerned. I got an old Audigy2 and Avid works well with it.
