We have this version at our shop (military) and I wish we could have the latest and greatest but they are tight with money these days. Though they did purchase a glidecam 4000 pro for me which is cool. BUT. Are there any upgrades from the version that we currently have that are free to download? Just wondering.

4.6 should be available to you for free. If you want to pay $50 of your own money, you can get version 5.2 which includes support for HDV, all flavors of HD, multiple resolutions on the timeline, a great multicam that allows you to use multiple resolutions, and Avid DNxHD, the mastering codec that looks like uncompressed HD with the bandwith and footprint of uncompressed SD.

Whatever you feel you need, but 5.2 is very stable and well worth the $50, IMHO.

Oh, and it includes support for using the scroll wheel functions of your mouse, too. :-)

Hope this helps,
