Avid update?

I'm a student and bought the Academic Version of Avid Xpress Pro HD v 5.1.5.. I know this is one of the earliest HD versions. I bought it from a fellow student. It is legitimate and has the dongle and everything. Does it cost to upgrade to a higher version? The reason i ask is because i'm not sure how well this version will support P2. Getting a HVX200 this week, i'm trying to get an idea of workflow. Thanks for your help.

To upgrade from 5.1 to the latest version (5.7) will cost you $150.

The only problem you might have is if the other student registered the software. I don't believe you can transfer the license of an Academic version, but if the other student didn't register it you can go ahead and register it in your name. If they did, you may need their info to buy the upgrade in "their" name to install it on your system. Do you still have the ability to contact this student to see if they registered it?

I registered it when i got it so that won't be a problem. So do I just go to the avid website?

Yeah. Click on "How To Buy", then click Online Store. Choose your region, then in the store, choose Avid Xpress Updates. It's the second one down.
